Still going Gaga over Obama...

He's here, he's here, my black president, our black president, the Western world's black president, and I have absolutely no means of communicating with him. Not that I'd know what to say or do, it would probably be a very awkward moment if it did happen. I'd probably just want to shake his hand and say thank you, or bless you or wow, you?! I just want to smile at him.

I wasn't sure that he was still my president, as he has recently been marching troops back into Afghanistan and I felt a little cheated as I thought our objective was to end the war not to reinforce it. I understand that he has a duty to serve, I understand he needs to get to the bottom of past attacks and accusations and I know he has a responsibility to use the intelligence he receives... but I still really thought, he'd just turn around, armed with a top hat, cloak and a big band orchestra, and sing "let's call the whole thing off..." There's my shining (dreamy) Piscean naivety bursting through again. I forget that he's only a man. Great man, but still only one man.

My Obama faith and admiration was re-installed though, in one tiny little insignificant moment. I've sat through 3 hours of the repeated news just to see this moment over and over again. Outside 10 downing street this morning, he stood outside with Gordon Brown, waving to the crowd and very warmly patting our Golden Browney on the back. And as he turned to go in doors, Obama walks straight up to the security man (who had obviously been correctly following orders to stand like a statue), and overly enthusiastically and ever so warmly picks up this security man's hand and shakes it firmly. Just that 3 second moment. That's when I knew he was my guy... not leaving anyone behind.

Golden Browney is my friend too. I love that he's so British... Not only does he look the symbol of Britishness (the bulldog - Churchill), double chin and all, but following Obama back into the house, he also for a moment, reached out to the security guard, to shake his hand. But then he remembered, he is British - propriety, sense and decorum, formalities must be observed. Lolest.

That's our guy!:) I like Gordon Brown too, for exactly the reasons you stated. I feel really sorry for him because he's trying. Looks a little like a British bulldog.
