rethinking the one/fade into the background

Now I had managed to convince myself that there is only one "one". You don't get to have two the "one's" do you. But I can't have had "the one" if i no love was reciprocated. So I must have deluded myself into thinking the one was the one when he really wasn't the one? But he was the one. (still deluded obviously). Even if I wasn't his one, I know I felt/feel love.

I been feeling lately that there's no purpose to life, to anything, no lessons to be learnt... sometimes people are just bad. That's it, no excuse, no psychological dysfunction. But in rethinking the one, maybe there's a "one" for every moment, and in a certain moment... you're number "one" can be replaced by another "one".

What I don't want to happen is to let the wrong one go because i'm over-staying, extending the moment with another "one"... because then, like this magical Ne-yo song... I'm going to have to fade into the background... I don't really want to be sitting at his wedding reception.

She looks so good in that white dress
At the far end of the aisle
Standing where I should be standing
Some other man on his face there's a smile

I just walked in sat down silent
I stood outside for awhile
Wondering why did I come here
Face it you messed up and now she's with somebody else

And now all I can do is smile
And fade into the background
I'll say congratulations and I'll fade into the background

Such a lovely reception
I sit here sipping Rosé (lol My FAV)
Then we catch eyes for a second
Both of us smile then quickly look away

It's funny you don't know what you got
Till you ain't got it no more
Put down my glass grab the bottle
I throw it back and I shout she with somebody else

And now all I can do is smile
And fade into the background
I'll say congratulations and I'll fade into the background

Fade right into the background

She's with somebody else
And now all I can do is smile
And fade into the background
I'll say congratulations and I'll fade into the background
