My latest occurrence of douchebaggery still has my cheeks hot...
My boss invited me to a concert this weekend at Emmarentia Dam (um... Why is Zoo Lake more popular than Emmarentia Dam?!) ... and as an avid lover of live music, huge 340ml fan and a generally always eager-ants-in-my-pants-kinda-babybluegirl... I decided to go.
Now 340ml, as AMAZING as their reggae tunes are, and with their sound ability to always "knock-me-over-with-(their)-kung-fu-smile" (BEST LYRIC ever nomination!)... were surprisingly, not the main act. Goldfish were.
My boss-lady sang me a few lyrics from the one song that everyone knows by Goldfish, and while it sounded vaguely familiar, I couldn't call myself a fan.
Flash forward, at the Dam, gorgeous sunny afternoon, settling in to picnic junk food, biltong and smuggled in vodka in a coke bottle (don't tell anyone)... Zak, or the boy I know as Zak approaches. I haven't seen him since college - 4 years ago, and we weren't best-buddies or anything. I was actually closer to his girlfriend though I'm pretty sure he bit my neck once as a joke if that counts for closeness. It still hurts.
Zak: Hi Nyasha, wow, do you live here now?
Me: Hiiiiii Zak, yes, just moved to Jozi a month ago, and you?
Zak: No, I'm in Cape Town, just came up for today
Me: You just came up for a day? Well that's kinda odd
Zak: Yeah, for the concert
Me: Oh, just for the concert?! That's a bit much don't you think?
Zak: Um, I'm in Goldfish...
Me: Oh... in the band?
Zak: Yes, in the band Goldfish.
I turn to boss-lady
Me: Boss-lady, do you know this guy, does he look like he's in Goldfish?
Boss-Lady: Um, yeah, the lead guy who sings/raps
Me (STUPIDLY EMBARRASSED): Oh...right ... well...
Zak (pissed off): I've got to go
Me: ok... then... Good Luck
Zak: Yeah, thanks.
Skip forward - 340ml - AMAZING, then Goldfish perform and of course Zak = Sakhile Moleshe, ROCKS the FRIGGIN house... or Dam in this case. He is an incredible performer; he really got the energy flowing and he really does complete the Goldfish Duo.
Oh deary me. "I Bus Therefore I Am."
I really enjoyed the concert though.
:-(

Mr. Sakhile Moleshe aka "Zak"
Even MADIBA, at 91, is more in the know about current popular music than I am ... :-(. Well better late than ever, and now I'm officially a fan.
